GM Flashcards
Formula for finding the position of the median of a data set?
N+1/2
- If it is a number like 5.5, then you take the average of number in position 5 &6.
How can the range of a data set be found?
HIGHEST DATA POINT- LOWEST DATA POINT
What is IQR AND THE FORMULA?
GIVES US THE SPREAD OF THE MIDDLE 50% OF THE DATA. FORMULA [(Q3-Q1)=IQR]
How do we find q1 and q3 with even numbers?
- We spilt the data set into half
- Find the average of the data sets that you split.
How do we find q1 and q3 with odd numbers?
- Find the median of the entire data set
- Cross out the median
- Split the data set
- find the median of the data sets separately.
What are the two types of data?
Numerical & Categorical
What are the different types of categorical data?
Nominal & Ordinal
What are the different types of Numerical data?
Discrete and continuous
In what ways can we display Categorical data?
- Frequency Tables
- Bar Charts
- Segmented Bar Charts
In what ways can we display Numerical data?
-Histograms
- Stem Plots
- Dot Plots
How to describe numerical data?
Comment On The:
-The shape of the distribution
- The spread of the distribution
- The Centre of the distribution.
How to comment on the Centre of a graph?
We comment on the mean and median.
- Mean= (Sum of data values)/(number of data values)
- Median = n+1/2 (- If it is a number like 5.5, then you take the average of numbers in positions 5 &6.)
How to comment on the shape of a graph?
- Symmetrical: The peak is at the Centre and the distribution is at a bell curve shape.
- Positively skewed: The tail of the graph stretches towards the right ( in the positive direction of the x-axis).
- Negatively skewed: The tail of the graph stretches towards the left ( in the negative direction of the x-axis).
How to comment on the Spread of a graph?
We comment on the RANGE and IQR.
What do we need to include in a box-plot/ describe the step by
EDITTTT LATERRRR
First we calculate the outliers:
Lower fence=q1-1.5 x IQR
Upper fence =q3+1.5 x IQR
- If minimum value is 4, and the outlier for the lower fence = -1.5, then -1.5 is the outlier.
- If maximum Value is 21 and outlier is 14, then 21 is the outlier and 14
- Lowest Number.
- Q1.
- Q2 Median.
- Q3.
- Highest Number.
