Insertion: Greater Trochanter (Femur)
Action: Abduct and Medially Rotate Femur (supports weight when lifting opposite leg)
Nerve: Superior Gluteal Nerve
Gluteus Maximus
Origin: Ilium, Sacrum, Coccyx, Sacrotuberous Ligament
Insertion: Femur, Iliotibial tract
Action: Extend, Laterally Rotate Femur (also keeps leg extended via iliotibial tract)
Nerve: Inferior Gluteal
Gluteus Minimus
Origin: Ilium
Insertion: Greater Trochanter (Femur)
Action: Abduct and Medially Rotate Femur (supports weight when lifting opposite leg)
Nerve: Superior Gluteal Nerve
Tensor Fascia
Origin: Anterior Superior Iliac Spine (Ilium)
Insertion: Iliotibial Tract
Action: Abduct Femur (also keeps leg extended through iliotibial tract)
Nerve: Superior Gluteal Nerve
Piriformis
Origin: Sacrum
Insertion: Greater Trochanter (Femur)
Action: Laterally Rotate Femur
Nerve: Nerve to Piriformis
Obturator Internus
Origin: Obturator Membrane
Insertion: Greater Trochanter (Femur)
Action: Laterally Rotate Femur

Superior Gemellus
Origin: Ischial Spine
