Gluteal Muscles Flashcards
Gluteus Maximus insertion
Upper fibers: iliotibial tract
Lower fibers: gluteal tuberosity
Gluteus Maximus innervation
Inferior gluteal n (L5-S2)
Gluteus Maximus action
Entire muscle: extension, ext rotation of hip in Sagittal and frontal planes
Upper fibers: abduction
Lower fibers: adduction
Gluteus medius origin
Ilium (gluteal surface between the anterior and posterior gluteal lines)
Gluteus medius insertion
Greater trochanter of femur (lateral surface)
Gluteus medius, gluteus mimimus, and tensor fasciae latae innervation
Superior gluteal n (L4-S1)
Gluteus medius and minimus action
Entire muscle: abduction of hip, stabilize pelvis in frontal plane
Anterior part: flexion and internal rotation
Posterior part: extension and external rotation
Gluteus minimus origin
Ilium (gluteal surface between the anterior and inferior gluteal lines)
Gluteus minimus insertion
Greater trochanter of femur (anterolateral surface )
Tensor fasciae latae origin
ASIS
Tensor fasciae latae insertion
Iliotibial tract
Tensor fasciae latae action
Tenses the fascia lata
Hip joint: abduction, flexion, and internal rotation
Piriformis origin
Pelvic surface of sacrum
Piriformis insertion
Apex of greater trochanter of femur
Piriformis innervation
Direct branches of sacral plexus S1-S2
