Gluteal And Thigh Muscles Flashcards
Superficial Muscles
Gluteus maximus, gluteus medius, gluteus minimus and tensor fascia lata
Gluteus Maximus
Pa- IIium, posterior surface of the sacrum and coccyx.
Da- iliotibial tract and gluteal tuberosity of femur.
N/s- inferior gluteal n.
A- Extension of hip and external rotation of hip.
Gluteus Medius
Pa- ilium, between anterior and posterior gluteal lines.
Da- Lateral surface of the greater trochanter of femur.
N/s- Superior gluteal n.
A- Abduction and internal rotation of hip.
Also stabilises hip when ipsilateral limb is weight bearing.
Gluteus Minimus
Pa- ilium between anterior and inferior gluteal lines.
Da- Anterior surface of the greater trochanter of femur
N/s- Superior gluteal n.
A- Abduction and internal rotation of hip.
Also stanilises pelvis when ipsilateral limb is weight bearing.
Tensor Fascia Lata
Pa- Anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS)
Da- Iliotibial tract which attaches to the anterolateral tubercle of tibia.
N/s- Superior gluteal n.
A- Abduction and internal rotation of hip.

Obturator Internis
Pa- Internal surface of obturator membrane and surrounding bone
Da- Trochanteric fossa of femur
N/s- N. to obturator internis
A- External roation of extended hip, abduction of flexed hip. Stabilises hip
Superior and Inferior Gemellus
