Archaeology
The study of human history by digging up ancient artefacts
Stratigraphy
Study of the layers of the earth used to determine the approximate age of remains
Dendrochronology (tree ring dating)
Helps date different objects. Each ring indicated one year, the more spaced out would be from climate change or conditions.
Radiocarbon dating
Can find out when something stops breathing carbon. By knowing how much still remains, the approximate death date can be worked out
Thermo luminescence
Emission of light from certain minerals.
The longer the mineral was exposed to radiation in the past, the more energy it releases when heated.
Chronology
Order in which events happened from earliest to most recent
Hypothesis
A prediction made off evidence
DNA analysis
The analysis of someone’s DNA to discover their past
Artefact
Any object that is made or changed by any humans. Eg remains of a building
Bias
A prejudicial attitude for or against something
