Aboriginal Australian Englishes
varieties of language used by Indigenous people, ranging from very close to Standard Australian
English to something close to a creole
Accent
a manner of pronunciation which marks speakers as belonging to an identifiable category, such
as geographical, ethnic, social class or generation
* Australian accents can be classified as Broad, General or Cultivated
* there are some regional, age-related and social differences in the accents of Australian English
Acronym Or Initialism
formed from the first or first few letters of each of the words in a phrase
* acronyms are pronounced as a word, have no full stops or spaces, and are generally uppercase
e.g. NATO, NASA
Active Voice
in which the subject is typically the person or thing performing the action and which can take
a direct object
* the most common category of grammatical voice in English
e.g. She loved him (active) as opposed to the passive form He was loved by her passive voice
