BSS
A BASE STATION SUB SYSTEM (BSS) contains all nodes and functionalities that are necessary to wirelessly connect mobile subscribers over the radio interface to a network.
The radio interface is usually also referred to as the air interface.
NSS
A NETWORK SUB SYSTEM (NSS) contains all the nodes and functionalities that are necessary for switching of calls,subscriber management and mobility management.
The NSS is also called the core network.
BTS
The Base Transceiver Station (BTS).
BSC
The Base Station Controller (BSC).
MSC
The Mobile Switching Centre (MSC).
EIR
The Equipment Identity Register (EIR).
VLR
The Visitor Location Register (VLR).
HLR
The Home Location Register (HLR).
