Trade mark registered and valid in all EU

Automatic right of creator to control of how work is copied
European patent application
Single patent which, once granted, acts like a bunch of separate patents in each country
European Patent Convention EPC
International convention which governs the application, processing and granting of a European patent
European Patent Office EPO
Set up after EPC 1973. Responsible for examining patent applications and granting European patents
In force
A patent which has been granted and is kept in working order as renewal fees are being paid each year
Infringement
Occurs when rights of patented are breached
Intellectual property
Group of legal rights that protect an innovator’s work that are a result of mental effort e.g. Patents, trademarks, registered design, copyright
IPReg Intellectual property Regulation Board
Regulates all patent and trademark attorneys. Set the education and training requirements for qualification and set code of conduct for the profession. Also handles complaints of misconduct
Lapsed
When a granted patent is no longer enforced due to renewal fees not being paid
Patent cooperation Treaty PCT
System where a single patent can be filed for a number of different PCT countries at once
Patentee
Person/organisation that holds the patent
Registered design
A design registered with IPO under registered design act. Protects how article looks, not way it works
Registered trademark
Name/symbol used to represent a company, registered so no one else can use it
Restoration
A lapsed patent can be restored back into force if fees are paid and request of restoration is submitted to patent office with an explanation
