Facility leader
Authorize individuals to perform Site Safeguarding Assessment.
Authorize individuals to use an Operating Procedure and Do Not
Touch Procedures.
Ensure that risks are identified and assessed and that the risks
are reduced to acceptable levels within the operating areas for
which they are accountable.
Implement and comply with all aspects of this standard.
Define an acceptable risk for human and machine interaction.
Designate a Machine Safety Site Focal Point.

Ensure all aspects of the standard are being followed by the facility.
Ensure that updates to the core program documents are provided as they become updated or available
Qualified Person
Person who, by possession of a recognized degree, certificate,
or professional standing, or who, by extensive knowledge, training, and experience, successfully demonstrates the ability to solve or resolve problems relating to the subject matter, the
work, or the project.
Be qualified through an employer or third-party qualified
evaluator (verbal or written test and through a practical test).
Have the training, skills, and knowledge to conduct the Site Safeguarding assessments for machines.
Certified Person
Person who meets nationally recognized certification requirements applicable to the task(s) being performed. They can conduct the Task Based Machine Risk Assessments for a facility or site based on their training, certification, or knowledge. This is generally a process automation engineer.
Authorized person
A person who is authorized to lock out or tag out equipment for maintenance or servicing.
Have the required training, knowledge, skills, and be authorized by facility leadership that has operational control of the equipment that is being isolated.
Ensure that an isolation of energy management system is implemented when working on or servicing equipment that could result in the exposure of individuals to energy sources.
Can be an isolator or verifier in a Complex IOEMS.
Worker who uses a Lock Out/Tag Out Procedure (LO/TOP).
Note: For the purpose of this standard, workers that have been identified as authorized for the Isolation of Energy Standard are authorized in this standard
Affected Person
Persons who operate the relevant machinery or whose jobs require them to be in the area where service or maintenance is performed but do not service or maintain machinery or perform lockout/tagout activities.
Note: For the purpose of this standard, workers that have been identified as an affected person for the isolation of energy are affected in this standard.
