Glomerular Filtration Flashcards
Where does the renal artery transfer the blood into?
Afferent Arterioles
What is Glomerulus ?
main filtering unit in the kidney covered with capillaries called Bowmann’s Capsule
Where does the blood from Glomerulus go?
it enters into efferent arterioles which then divide into capillaries for the second time
These capillaries are called Peritubular capillaries since they are arranged around the renal tubule
Where does the blood filtration begin?
Glomerulus
What are the things that glomerulus does not let to pass through?
Red blood cells and proteins
What passes through Glomerulus is ?
Plasma (55% are blood)
What is the renal tubule made up of ?
Proximal Convoluted tubule
Loop of Henle
Ascending limb
Descending limb
Distal convoluted tubule
Collecting tubule
What is the cell found in kidney
Juxtaglomerular cells
What converts angiotensin to angiotensin 2
Renin
What are the 2 key hormones that act to increase arteriolar resistance and in turn reduce renal blood flow?
Adrenaline
Angiotensin
What is Adrenaline ?
Hormone secreted by adrenal gland (sympathetic stimulation )
Which receptor does adrenaline bind to?
Alpha- 1 androgenic receptor along the afferent and efferent arteriole
What does alpha 1 adrenoceptor do ?
It makes the afferent and efferent arteriole quickly constrict
Where can you find the juxtaglomerular cells?
It can be found on the walls of afferent arteriole
Where is aldosterone hormone found?
It is found in the adrenal cortex at the Zona glomerulosa
