What is Globalisation?
Process through which the world appears to become increasingly interconnected.
What is meant by the term “Shrinking World”?
The idea that the world feels increasingly smaller because of the number of connections and access to the media.
Define the abbreviation “TNC”
Trans National Corporations (Companies). These have head quarters in one place (usually HIC) but operate in other countries too.
What is a primary sector?
Type of employment which involves the extraction of raw materials (Hard Labour) for example, mining or farming.
What is a secondary sector?
Type of employment which involves turning raw materials into a new product (manufacturing). Often done in factories.
What is a Tertiary Sector
Type of employment which is high paid and focuses on delivering a service (e.g medicine or education
NEE
Newley emerging economy. Countries which are getting wealthier as they move more from the primary to secondary sector of employment.
Interdependence
Countries relying on each other for key goods or services. The relationship is essential for both places.
Import
Bringing a product into a country from another country so it can be used or sold.
Export
Sending a product made in your country to another country.
Fairtrade
An organisation trying to make trade better for the primary producers, gives them more money to improve their lives and communities.
Aid
Movement of money and/or resources from one place to another in order to help the receiver.
Corruption
Governments/organisations who take money or goods for themselves rather than passing them to those in need.
MDG
Millennium development goals. 15 targets created by the UN to try and improve equality around the world.
Infrastructure
Structures (e.g buildings, roads and railways)which enable a place/the world to run today.
