Global Warming & Climate Change Flashcards
What is Global Warming?
Global warming is the increase of the Earth’s average surface temperature due to a build-up of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
What is Climate Change?
Climate change is a broader term that refers to long-term changes in climate, including average temperature and precipitation.
How can we stop global warming?
Wind Power
Solar Power
Fuel-Efficiency
What is the proof that global warming is happening?
Portage Glacier (in Alaska, a whole lake was created by this melted glacier)
Althbasca Glacier (Alberta)
Colorado River (in Arizona, the river has almost fully dried up)
What are some effects of global warming?
Rising Sea Level
Increased Temperature
Habitat Damage & Species Affected
Changes in Water Supply
Why is the greenhouse effect an issue?
As humans put more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, the effect increases, causing more heat to be trapped between the atmosphere and the Earth’s surface.
