Global Systems Flashcards
What is the Biosphere?
The biosphere contains all living things and it is a combination of all the spheres (since living things exist in each sphere).
What is the Hydrosphere?
The hydrosphere contains all the water on Earth.
What does the Hydrosphere include?
This includes water in it’s liquid forms (rivers and groundwater), solid forms (snow and glaciers) and gaseous forms (water vapour).
What types of water is the Hydrosphere made of?
It is made up of 97% salt water (oceans) and 3% fresh water.
What is the Lithosphere?
The lithosphere is made up of the Earth’s crust and part of the mantle.
What does the Lithosphere include?
It includes all of the rocks, sand, minerals and soils on Earth.
What is the atmosphere?
The atmosphere contains all the gases that surround Earth.
What is in the Atmosphere?
It is made up of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen and 0.04% carbon dioxide.
What does the Atmosphere do?
It contains oxygen, while also reflecting and absorbing radiation in order to keep the planet warm.
