Obligations to home country (who loses vs gains jobs, local revenue and taxes, local ideas laws standards)
Obligations to host country (honour human rights, benefits for people)
What are sources of dilemmas in international operations?
Different value systems, laws, beliefs, customs, business practices, safety/env laws, attitudes
How is utilitarianism limited in resolving international dilemmas?
Defining good and people is an issue, different customary rights, virtuous behaviour varies, may not account for cultural issues
What are issues with ethical relativism in international ops?
Can lead to unacceptable practices, can conflict with own values system
How can ethical theories be used in international ops?
Blend rules:
Identify source of conflict, check legal implications, ensure practice is accepted, consider why it’s seen differently, consider effect of not doing business there
What are international rights that shouldn’t be violated in international ops?
Freedom of movement, ownership of property, freedom from torture, fair trial, non discrimination, physical security, freedom of speech/association, minimum education, political participation, subsistence
