The balance of the number of people being born (birth rate) and number dying (death rate); the number moving in (immigration) and the number moving out (emigration)
Population change
Difference between the number of people moving permanently into an area and out of an area
Net - migration
An immigration of people into a country, which involves a permanent change in residence
Immigration
Out-migration of people from a county, which involves a permanent change in residence
Emigration
A person who a moved outside the country of his/her nationality or usual domicile because of genuine fear of persecution or death
Refugees
A person who seeks into another country by claiming to be a refugee
Asylum seekers
A person who moves from another country, region or place, involving a permanent or semi-permanent change in residence to improve their standard of living or job opportunities
Economic migrant
Migration of large numbers of people between different regions of the world e.g. Europe to N America
Inter-regional migrant flows
Migration of large numbers of people within the region e.g. wales to England
Intra-regional flows
Migration with no government permition, no documentation which usually limits right to to work
Illegal migration
Countries from which migrants leave
Sending counties / Country of origin
Countries into which migrants arrive
Receiving countries / Country of destination
Negative attributes of a migrants place of origin which force a migrant to leave
Push factors
Positive attributes of a place or destination which attract migrants
Pull factors
Money transferred from one country to another, sent home by migrants to their families, friends and communities
Migrant remittances
Spread of an ethnic or national group from their homeland e.g. Jews from Israel or Kurds from Kurdistan
