-1.5 million people were forced to live in temporary accommodation and 1,300 camps were still there a year later.

Short Term Responses
-4.3 million people were provided with food rations, 115,000 tents and 1,000,000+ tarpaulins were provided
-Most government buildings collapsed which hindered the aid effort, money was pledged from countries around the world ($100 million from the US and $300 million from the EU)
-Temporary field hospitals were set up by the International Red Cross but supplies were limited, UN troops and police were sent to help distribute aid, 810,000 people were placed in aid camps, foreign aid was slow to reach people due to damaged infrastructure and violence and looting were observed in Haiti.
Long Term Responses
-A year after, 1.5 million people were still in camps and very little housing had been rebuilt so 1,300 camps remained open a year after
-Temporary schools were created, and MSF tried to help casualties whilst the USA took charge of trying to coordinate aid distribution
-The World Bank waived the country’s debt for 5 years, which meant that -Haiti could focus on its relief efforts. Between 23 charities $1.1 billion was collected for Haiti for relief efforts and the government created a ‘Cash for Work’ programme for 70% of people who did not have a job.
