When one nation looks to extend their power, ideology, government, culture, economy, and influence over another country while gaining access to their human, technology, and natural resources.
Isolationism
A national policy of avoiding involvement with other country’s affairs.
Annexation
A land addition to an already existing country.

Non-renewable resources that come from the earth and are important to people. (Water, Lumber, Gold)
Anti-imperialism
To be against the extension of a nation over another for national gain.
Militarism
An increase of the importance of the military to a country.
Yellow Journalism
The reporting of exaggerated stories in newspapers to increase sales.
Panama Canal
An artificial waterway across the isthmus of Panama
Globalization
The process in which the United States is becoming more inter-dependent with other countries.
Spanish American War
A war between Spain and the United States resulting in Spain’s withdrawal from Cuba and it’s cession of Guam, the Philippines and Puerto Rico. (1898)
