Glasgow Housing Flashcards
Evaluate the strategies used to manage housing in a developed country.
The developed area I have studied in Glasgow. Housing associations such as the new Gorbals housing association have many homes and flats, these allow people to have custom rent plans and maintenance crews to fix people’s problems. This is effective as people who live in the area may not be able to afford maintenance, this can then lead to people living in unsafe conditions.
The design layouts of the flats and houses have been done to fit the needs of the population, such as town houses with flats above. This saves space and provides a more affordable option. This is effective as the buyers are usually students or young families, with affordable and safe housing options this means people will be able to afford their homes.
Designing buildings to replicate the original tenement blocks while adding suitable housing for the 21st century, this provides a sense of community to the area and helps make elderly residents become more comfortable with change.

The developed city i have studied is Glasgow. The tenement style housing has been built to create a community spirit. The Highrise flats have been demolished due to the antisocial conditions. All the houses designed have been architecturally designed with some of the houses representing the areas heritage, which has attracted people with a higher income to move to the area creating a social and economic mix. Public art has been used on the housing to help improve the attractiveness of the area. Housing associations allow the government to build more affordable housing. New energy efficient home built to improve life expectancy in the area the legacy hub is a new and improved community centre to meet the demands of the community.
