Glands And Endocrine Tissues Flashcards
1
Q
Two types of glands
A
Endocrine (no ducts)
Exocrine (ducts)
2
Q
Endocrine glands
A
Secrete directly into blood
secrets hormones
Example
- pituitary gland
- thyroid gland
- parathyroid gland
All epithelial cells secrete the hormones in the gland
3
Q
Exocrine
A
Secrete into location or region of body via duct secrete mostly enzymes or lubricants
Examples
- Salivary gland
- Pancreas
- Mammary l
- sweat glands
- Sebaceous
- Lachrymal
Only cells at apex secrete
4
Q
Branching or elongation
A
- FGF10 released by immaturefibroblasts (mesenchymal stem cells)
- epithelial cells move towards the signal
Two different fates:
- Tubule elongation (growth factor one active)
- Tubule branching (growth factor 2 active)
5
Q
Classifying glands
A
- mesocrine secretion
- Apocrine secretion
- Holocene secretion
6
Q
Merocrine secretion
A
Fusion of resides with apical membrane
A form of exocytosis
