What is a gland?
A structure that secretes substances
What are the two types of glands?
Exocrine and endocrine
What is an exocrine gland?
A gland which releases their product into ducts or tubes
What are some examples of exocrine glands?
Salivary glands, sweat glands, tear glands, gastric glands, sebaceous glands and mammary glands
What is an endocrine gland?
A ductless gland that produces hormones, which are released directly into the bloodstream
How do hormones released by endocrine glands enter the bloodstream?
The endocrine secretes hormones into tissue fluid and from their the hormone passes into the bloodstream.
Why do endocrine glands have a rich supply of capillariies?
As their hormones are transported by the blood
