Gladstone’s principles
A
- religion, saw politics as a way of carrying out God’s will, wanted to protect the CoE.
- equality of opportunity - determined to abolish unjust special privileges
- free trade - free enterprise was the best way to boost prosperity
- desire to pacify Ireland
- social reform - reform costs money and Gladstone believed in self-help.
