Q

What is the formation of a arête

Two glaciers erode back to back by plucking
The narrow ridge left in between is an arête
Freeze thaw weathering makes the ridge sharper

Q

What is the formation of a Corrie

A

Snow collects in a north facing hollow snow then builds up and compressed into ice
The ice moves downhill due to gravity as a glacier freeze thaw weathering an plucking make the back wall steeper an jagged
After th flier melts it leaves an armchair shaped hollow called a Corrie

Q

What is the formation of a pyramidal peak

A

A pyramidal peak form when three virtues cut into the same mountain by plucking and abrasion
Where the corries side wall meets they form a ridge a pyramidal peak is a steep pointed mountain top
The arêtes join at the top to make a pyramidal peak

Q

The formation of a u shaped valley

A

Snow collect and accumulates in a v shaped valley
The snow gets compressed and turns into glacial ice the ice then moves downhill due to gravity
Abrasion will erode the bottom to make it deep and the idea o make it wise
This creates a u shaped valley if they’re is water in it it called a ribbon lake

Q

Plucking

A

Between the glacier an rock is a thin film of melt water
Sometimes the water freezes cause if the rock to stick to the glacier
Then the glacier moves forward, pulling out rock

Q

Freeze thaw weathering

A

Rainfall fills a crack in the road in the winter it freezes turns into ice when it freezes the ice expands forcing the crack to be bigger
It then melts and water fills up again and it refreshes
This process will happen over and over pieces of rock will break off

Q

Abrasion

A

This is when the rock turns into glacial ice it moves down the rock scrapping te valley floor and the sides eroding it
