Primarily causes infections of the CNS (meningitis, meningoencephalitis, brain abscess, cerebritis) and bacteremia in those who are immunocompromised, as well as gastroenteritis in healthy persons who have ingested a large inoculum of the organism (Listeria monocytogenes)
