GIS
Geographical Information System
- computer-based geographical tool for collecting, storing, analyzing, managing, modeling and presenting geographical data for a wide range of uses
Passive remote sensing
Collecting data that constantly radiates from the earth
Active remote sensing
Collecting data only when the satellite sends radiation to the target area
Data overlay
Enables us to analyze, compare and establish relationships between different sets of data
Buffering
The process of drawing a zone of a specific distance around a particular feature
Sphere of influence
A buffer zone which shows the people and places most affected by a feature
Zone of protection
A buffer zone which shows an area where people and places are less impacted by a feature because they are within a certain distance of another feature
( e.g. liquor stores and schools)
