- osseous involvement

- Furcation involvement
- Minimal attached gingiva
What is Gingivoplasty?
- Reshaping of the gingiva
- Recreating physiological contours
- Can get rid of a gingival “step”
What are the steps to doing a gingivoectomy?
- Local anesthesia
- Pocket depth marks on tissue (mark deepest point)
- External tissue bevel
- Tissue removal
- Excision of tissue tags
- Gingivoplasty
- application of surgical dressing
Do you remove the junctional epithelium in a gingivectomy?
Yes! Then it reforms from epithelium
How quickly does gingiva heal after gingivectomy?
6-8 week for JE to reform and complete healing.
How long does patient wear surgical dressing?
7-10 days
Does gingvectomy cause loss of attachment?
yes it can, that is one downside.
Gingivectomy vs Electrosurgery? Which is better?
Electrosurgery cauterizes as it cuts and it eliminates the bleeding complication of gingivectomy.
