Gingiva Flashcards
What is efferent nerve supply for the oral mucosa?
mostly sympathetic autonomic (for blood vessels)
What is afferent nerve supply in gingiva?
from 2nd and 3rd divisions of trigeminal nerve
what is the subepithelial plexus network in the reticular layer of the lamina propria?
it is a bunch of unmyelinated nerves in the lamina propria
what are free nerve endings usually associated with in the epithelium?
Merkels cells
what are free nerve endings associated with in lamina propria?
Schwann Cells, they have nociceptor, mechanoreceptor, and thermoreceptor function
Organized nerve endings are classified as group of nerve fibers surrounded by connective tissue capsule, they enclude, meissners, ruffini and Karause’s bulbs. Where are they found and not found?
Not in epithelium, rather they are in lamina propria, esp in maxillary anterior
does the circular group attach directly to tooth?
no
What is vimentin?
an intermediate filament protein in cells of mesenchymal origin
what is desmin?
an intermediate filament protein in muscle cells
what are keratins?
an intermediate filament protein in epithelial cells and their derivatives
What are adherens junctions(cell cell) made of?
Cadherin as transmembrane protein, cadherin from other cell as extracellular ligand, actin filaments as intracellular cytoskeletal attachment, and alpha and beta catenins as intracellular anchor proteins
what are desmosomes(cell cell) made of?
cadherin, desmogleins of neighboring cells, intermediate filaments, and desmoplakins
what are focal adhesions (cell matrix) made of?
integrins, ecm proteins, actin filaments, talin vinculin alpha actin filamin
what are hemidesmosomes (Cell matrix) made of?
integrin a6b4, ecm proteins, intermediate filaments, plectin BP230
What are langerhan’s cells?
immmune cells only found in epithelium. They are macrophage like and characterized by intracellular Birbeck granules
