A

Excision of the soft tissue wall of a periodontal pocket that heals in a way to expose more tooth structure and cause a smaller pocket depth

A

Elimination of hyperplastic tissue (enlarged gingiva)
Elimination of suprabony pockets (base of the pocket is above the bone)
Elimination of a suprabony perio abscess

What are the contraindications for a Gingivectomy?

A

Osseous involvement:

  • Sig bone loss or defects
  • Pocket goes past the bone

Mucogingival involvement

  • can probe past the MGJ
  • very little keratinized gingiva
