- McBurney’s sign ~ tenderness @McBurney’s point (acute appendicitis)
- Rovsing’s sign ~ LIF palpation causes tenderness in RIF (acute appendicitis)
- Psoas & Obturator signs ~ Psoas: L lateral w/knee extended, pain on hyperextension of R hip; Obturator: raise R leg with knee flexed, pain w/rotating hip internally (acute appendicitis)
- Murphy’s sign ~ Hand below R costal margin along mid-clavicular line, deep inspiration w/ pain @ peak of inspiration Boas: Hyperesthesia below R scapula or RUQ (acute cholecystitis)
- Blumberg’s sign ~ pain upon removal of pressure (rebound tenderness) (Peritonitis)
- Kehr sign ~ pain in the tip of L shoulder (splenic rupture)
- Balance sign ~ fixed dullness L flank & shifting dullness to R flank (splenic rupture)
- Dance sign ~ empty RLQ & mass RUQ (intussusception)
- Cullen’s sign ~ Periumbilical ecchymosis/blue discoloration (ectopic pregnancy, blunt abdomen injury w/hemoperitoneum, hemorrhagic pancreatitis, or ruptured aortic aneurysm)
- Grey Turner’s sign ~ Flank ecchymosis (retroperitoneal hemorrhage or hemorrhagic pancreatitis)
Murphy’s triad ~ Pain, vomit & fever (in that order) acute appendicitis (PVT Murphy)
Markle sign ~ heel drop causes pain (intraperitoneal inflammation)
Intussusception: + dance sign, high pitched BS, & currant jelly stool (late sign)
