GI pharm Flashcards
2 ways to treat upper GI disorders/infections
- inc protective factors
- dec aggressive factors
pharm classes of protective factors
antacids
sucralfate
pharm classes of aggressive factors
H. polyri
H2 blockers
proton pump inhibitors
H. pylori tx
several antibiotics + gastric acid inhibitor
combo dec drug resistance
how long is H. pylori tx
10-14 days
problems with H. pylori tx
dec adherence d/t $$$$
H2 receptor blockers drugs
cimetidine, famotidine (2 dines = 20c)
H2 receptors blockers moa
blocks H2 in stomach –> dec gastric acid secretion (inc stomach pH)
H2 receptor blockers treat
GERD, PUD, heartburn
SE H2 receptors
CNS in elderly
inc pneumonia risk
H2 nursing considerations
give at least hour apart from antacids
may given prophylaxis (avoid aspiration)
CYP450 inhibitor
*can increase Warfarin effects
give slow in IV push (can cause bradycardia)
Proton pump inhibitor drugs
omeprazole, pantoprazole, esomeprazole magnesium
PPI drugs moa
blinds and inhibit proton pump (irreversibly inhibits secretion of HCl)
which are more effective: PPI or H2
PPI
PPI SE
short-term = safe
long-term = inc pneumonia risk, bone loss, stomach cancer
