What two GI hormones are released from the gut? Functions?
Ghrelin–> stimulates appetite
Peptide YY–> released post-prandially by endocrine cells the ileum and colon; satiety signal
Where is Leptin secreted from? Function?
Secreted from fat cells; stimulates POMC/CART neurons in the hypothalamus and inhibits NPY/AgRP–> reduces food intake and increased energy expenditure via increased physical activi and thermogenesis
Symptoms of Hypervitaminosis D in adults? Children?
Adults–> bone pain and hypercalcemia
Children–> metastatic calcifications in soft tissues like kidney
Why do 10% of pts with sarcoidosis have hypercalcemia?
Activated macrophages in granulomas may have enzyme for converting vitamin to to most active form pathologically turned on
