use with caution in pts with subs. abuse hx
activated charcoal moa?
binding the toxin
absorbs ingested poisons w/in gut lumen, allowing the complex to be evacuated w/ stool
activated charcoal uses?
> 90% of toxin is absorbed when ratio of charcoal to toxin is 10:1
activated charcoal ae?
contraindications:
bowel obst/perforation
depressed LOC
not for acidic or alkaline corrosives
