ETEC
pig farm, 6 month old pigs, a few have died. Some live pigs have bloody diarrhea, are weak, and have pale skin. On PM you find clotted blood in the feces that looks tarry, the ileum is thickened, and the mucosa has a rugose/wrinked/corrgugated appearance, and there is blood in the small intestine
lawsonia in a pig
on a PM of neonatal ruminants, you find hemorrhagic enteritis. The calves apparently exhibited tympany, hemorrhagic abomasitis, and abomasal ulceration. Gram + bacilli are found on the affected mucosa and in the submucosa.
clostridium perfringens in a calf
you go and see post weaning pigs that have fluid, yellowish diarrhea. they are also severly dehydrated and have intestinal dilation.
ETEC in a pig
pigs with suddne onset of diarrhea. the feces are watery to pasty, brownish, faintly blood stained. after a few days the pigs pass yellow fibrinonecrotic casts that have formed in the ileum
lawsonia in a pig
a 2 and a half year old colt presented with decreased feed intake and mild abdominal pain for 2 days. When you look at him, he is depressed and shows mild colic signs and moderate diarrhea. you found out there was fluid in the intestines, but the small intestines macroscopically were not modified in any way. the wall of the cecum and ascending colon were edematous and showed multiple erosions. On histo, there was typhlocolitis with mononuclear cell infiltration. The lesions of the large intestine are severe enough to account or the diarrhea seen.
clostridium difficile in a horse
11 day old pony presented with depression and diarrhea. she is lethargic. she shows little awareness of her surroundings. she has pale mucous membranes and her sclera is icteric. she has a fever of 40.8, and a HR of 180, RR 60

clostridium perfringens in a dog
3 year old boxer presented with history of 1 day of vomiting, bloody diarrhea, and brown urine. lethargy and anorexic for 2 days. on physical exam the dog is in poor condition, lethargic, and severly dehydrated. temp was 38.5. prolonged CRT, tachypnea, petechiae on mucus membranes. blood and urine showed severe hemolysis and brown discoloration. necropsy revealed disseminated petechiae on the pareital peritoneum and serosal surfaces of the GI tract. histo showed severe arteritis and microvascular thrombosis involving only the renal and intestinal arterioles.
