GI Anatomy Flashcards
Name the two surfaces that comprise the gastrointestinal wall?
- Serosal
2. Mucosal
List the structures of the GI tract starting with the mouth and ending with the anus. Be sure to break down the different sections of the small intestine.
1.Mouth 2. Esophagus 3. Stomach 4. Small intestine (duodenum, jejunum, ileum) 5. Colon/large intestine 6. Anus
What does the serosal surface face?
The blood
What does the mucosal surface face?
Lumen
What are the 3 sublayers of the mucosal layer?
- Epithelial cell layer
- Lamina propria
- Musularis mucosae
Starting with the mucosal layer, list all of the layers of the gastrointestinal tract.
- Mucosal layer (epithelial cells, lamina propria and muscularis mucosae) 2. Submucosal layer 3. Muscle (circular and longitudinal) 4. Serosa
Which smooth muscle layer is most densely innervated?
The circular layer (this layer is also the thickest)
Where in the gastrointestinal tract is the submucosal plexus (Meissner’s plexus) located?
Between the submucosa and the circular smooth muscle
Where in the gastrointestinal tract is the myenteric plexus located?
In between the circular and longitudinal muscle
