Palpate
Assess for distention and tenderness.

Place pt on left side prevent aspiration check VS NPO
Assess for fever, bleeding, pain
Proctosigmoidscopy
Visualize sigmoid rectum and anal canal for ulcer punctions, lacerations, tumors, and polyps.
After procedure place in supine position
Prevents orthostatic hypertension
Colonoscopy
Look at large intestines monitor for hemorrhage or severe pain( vasovagal response)
Encourage pt take deep breath position left side knees up
*watch below BP
Gastric Analysis
Measures secretions in stomach for duodenal ulcers cancer obstruction and pernicious
Basal cell secretions test
Acid from stomach test for PH and amount NG tube inserted in the stomach and hook to a suction 15 mins for 1hr (4x)
