gggt Flashcards
What do scientists say about the effects of climate change?
Nobody knows exactly what the effects of climate change will be. Some of the effects will no doubt be harmful, but others may bring benefits.
How is climate change affecting our world?
Sea temperatures are rising, causing the water to expand and the sea level to rise. Ice caps and glaciers are melting, causing sea level to rise even further. Climates around the world are changing, with some areas getting more rain and some less.
How are these changes likely to affect us?
Low-lying coastal areas will be flooded. Some islands will disappear altogether. Places with less rain may experience water shortages as crops fail to grow. Plants and animals that cannot adapt to climate change will become extinct. There might be an increase in insect pests. Tropical diseases may spread to temperate regions like Europe.
What are some predicted effects of climate change on sea levels?
Ice melts making sea levels rise.
How will climate change affect agriculture?
Drier conditions reduce grain harvest.
How might storms change due to climate change?
Increase in number of storms.
How could major cities be affected by climate change?
Many major cities could be flooded.
How will rainforest areas be affected by drier conditions?
Drier conditions cause loss of rainforest.
What might happen to deserts due to climate change?
Deserts advance north to replace crops.
How could rising sea levels affect islands?
Islands could be submerged by rising sea level.
How will ski resorts be affected by climate change?
Ski resorts could close due to lack of snow.
What could happen to beaches due to rising sea levels?
Beaches could disappear as sea level rises.
How might coastal regions be affected by climate change?
There could be increased flooding in coastal regions.
What changes might occur in temperature and rainfall patterns?
Some areas may become warmer and wetter.
