Getting to Know Chemistry Lab Equipment Flashcards
a thin glass tube closed at one end, used to hold small amounts of material for lab testing or experiments.
test tube
lab equipment to hold multiple upright test tubes.
test tube rack
used to hold test tubes when there is a substance inside that is hot or should not be touched.
test tube holder
used for cleaning the test tube.
test tube brush
a circular piece of glass used in chemistry as a surface to evaporate a liquid, to hold solids while being weighed, to heat a small amount of substance, and as a cover for a beaker.
watch glass
a device to measure weight or mass.
balance / scale
small stainless steel utensils, used for scraping, transferring, or applying powders and paste-like chemicals or treatments, in laboratories.
spatula
is often used when weighing solid or powdery substances on a balance or scale.
weighing paper
flat-bottomed glass with a narrow neck.
erlenmeyer flask
glass tube with a tap at one end, for delivering known volumes of a liquid, in titrations.
burette
a rotating magnetic field to cause a stir bar immersed in a liquid to spin very quickly, thus stirring it
magnetic stirrer
to transport a measured volume of a liquid, or uesd as a media dispenser.
pipette and bulb
a squeeze bottle with a nozzle used to rinse various pieces of laboratory glassware, such as test tubes and round bottom flasks.
wash bottle
used to separate fine solid particles from liquids or gases.
filter paper
is wide at the top and narrow at the bottom, used for guiding liquid or powder into a small opening.
