what does 35 mm refer to?

what does manual mean?
you have to make adjustments by hand for light
what does single lens mean?
both viewing and picture taking are done with the same single lens
what are the rules of a camera?
- don’t force anything
- don’t touch glass on lens
- have lens tissue handy
- avoid cleaning lens more than necessary
- don’t let camera straps hang over edges of furniture
- don’t use eyeglass tissues for lens cleaning
what are the safety reminders?
- watch your step
- make sure you have room to work
- when charging film in camera, do it away from any action you are photographing
what is focus ring?
encircles front of lens, controls sharpness of image
what is film rewind knob or crank?
allows you to return the exposed film to its cassette
what is film advance lever?
advances film from shot to shot and cocks shutter and operates frame counter
what is frame counter?
tells you how many pictures have been taken on a roll of film
what is the shutter release button?
triggers the shutter
what is light meter?
measures brightness/intensity of light

hold the film cassette

holds exposed film
what is f/stop?
hole though which light enters camera on its way to film
what is f/stop ring?
controls size of hole, encircles lens
what is depth of field?
how much of your picture is in focus; the greater the depth of field, the more objects both close and distant are in focus

maximum depth of field
what do you get with wide apertures?
throws part of picture out of focus
how do you get frozen motion?
fast shutter speed
how do you get moving motion?
slow shutter speed
