What are the Gestures and symbols?
Gestures are communications that are not conscious, in which you don’t know what the response will be
Symbols are conscious form of communication, where consequences are understandable
Herbert’s 3 Premises of Symbolic Interactionism
- Humans act towards things on basis of meaning provided
- Meanings are created through Social interactions from others
- Meanings handled in and thru an interpretive process a person uses in dealing with things he or she encounters
Dramaturgy
The presentation of one’s self in everyday life in which the world is a stage where individuals constantly act on
Frontstage
One performing on stage where audience is watching and the person performing are aware of being watched
Impression Management
Manage impressions of other people
Backstage
Being prepared for the front stage, in which the audience are barred from
Offstage
Neither performing or rehearsing, you are truly yourself
