Operational definition
Defines a variable in terms of the operations used to produce or measure that variable. Describes a concept in terms of its observable or measurable characteristics or behavior by specifying how the concept can be observed in actual practice.
Operationalizing
Variable need to have a working and understandable definition that could be appreciated by another researcher. Variable is translated into a specific and measurable form.
Oversampling
Sampling one or more subgroups at a rate greater than their proportion in their target population with the goal of achieving sufficiently large sample of the subgroup to permit conclusions. Contrasted with stratified sampling.
Palliative care
Palliative care provides those with a serious or chronic illness – from the time of diagnosis throughout the course of treatment – care that optimizes quality of life by anticipating, preventing, and managing suffering. It is delivered by an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and other practitioners to address the physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of patients and their families.

Anropause (male): fewer sperm, less motility Ejaculatory force diminished Decreased testosterone level Erection less firm Increase prostate gland size
Pharmacodynamics
The process involved in the interaction between a drug and its effect on an organ.
Pharmokinetics
The study of the bodily absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of drugs. Older adults unique responses to drugs and their incidence of drug misuse places them at high-risk for adverse drug reactions. This is an important component that needs to be applied to each individual and especially among the older adult population.
Phenotype
Individual characteristics

ADL Activities of daily living
Physical functions that an independent person performs each day (bathing, dressing, eating, toleting, walking/wheeling and transferring in and out of bed) The ability to perform ADLs are used in a checklist to evaluate needs Limitations of activity - long term reduction in a person’s ability to do his or her usual activities.
