Germany's reactions to the Treaty Flashcards
Why was Germany unhappy about loosing so much land?
They lost lots of their population by loosing 10% of their land
Because they lost 16% of their coal fields and half of their steel and iron industry it made it hard to pay debt back and to trade
It also went against Woodrow Wilson’s idea of all countries should be aloud to run themselves
Why did Germany call it the ‘Treaty of Diktat’?
Diktat means ‘dictated peace’
It was known as this because they weren’t aloud a say in the Treaty and forced to sign it.
Also if they didn’t agree to it then they would have been forced back into war.
Why was Germany not happy about reparations?
It was too much money for Germany to pay.
The country wouldn’t be able to recover while these payments were on going
Why were Germany not happy about taken on all the War Guilt?
It was humiliating for them
They didn’t believe that it was all their fault that war broke out
Why was the German public not happy with the ‘November Criminals’?
Many German’s did not want their government to sign the peace settlement.
They believed that they had been stabbed in the back by the ‘November Criminals’ which was those who agreed to end fighting in November 1918.
The German public were happy to believe their country had been betrayed by disloyal // cowardly people like the Jews.
What did Germany feel about their Military’s becoming reduced?
Too small to defend themselves.
Other countries should reduce their armies so it was fair
