• Hitler’s popularity increased! ⬆️
• Experienced few shortages – rationing had been introduced at start of war to try and limit shortages – but had resources sent from conquered lands
• Therefore little need for propaganda to boost morale

it could have led to political unrestas it had during WW1
Why did the initial success of WW2 change in 1942?
- the Wehrmacht’s failure to defeat the USSR
- rationing was increased as Germany was not war ready
- Artificial substitutes had to be found for products.

- led to Germans experiencing real hunger.
