How did German expansionism emerge?
- largely in response to the perceived failure of liberalism
- aimed to address the sense of national resentment and humiliation following the end of WW1

- struggling to retain its status as world power

regain territories lost to France and Poland

continued to 1934
france and britain could not rearm because it looked tow-faced and unreliable
this gave germany an 18 month advantage
hitler never agreed to disarmament
revoked the clause in TOV
