Q

Grosses Gewächs

A

Grosse Gewächs wines are the product of hand-harvested single vineyards with a maximum yield of 50 hl/ha.

Minimum must weight is equivalent to Spätlese; Grosses Gewächs wines are legally considered trocken, and may not contain more than 9 g/l of residual sugar.

Grape varieties vary according to each anbaugebiet, but the emphasis is on Riesling (55% of VDP estate vineyards.)

White wines may not be released before September 1 of the year following the harvest; Red wines receive an additional year of aging.
