A

He thinks he’s done nothing wrong. Gerlad says that Eva smith/ daisy renton “ didn’t blame me at all”. The audience at first don’t blame Gerald because neither did daisy Renton/ Eva smith. The inspector isn’t too harsh on him because gerlad “ had some affection for her and made her happy for a time” Gerald had some positive effects on Eva smith/ daisy rentons life. Then he left her and went off in a buisiness trip he left her homeless

Q

How did preist,y make Gerald a complex character

A

Gerlad is neither bad nor good.Gerald is confident but also stubborn, he doesn’t learn much about himself over the course of the play . The inspector asks Gerald whether he thinks “young women ought to be protected against unpleasant and disturbing things” Gerlad says yes, thinking of Sheila. It’s people like Gerald who are doing the unpleasant and disturbing things to women like Eva smith/ daisy Renton. He uses her and then discards her. This applies just as much to mr hurling and other men like him who have the same attitudes.Gerald has the ability to separate gus public, respectable image from secret, privat acts something eric hasn’t got the hang of
