Nation-state
A political unit consisting of an autonomous state inhabited predominantly by a people sharing a common culture, history, and lang
Direct democracy
A democracy in which the power to govern lies directly in the hands of the people rather than being exercised through their representatives.
Absolute monarchy
a monarchical form of government in which the monarch has absolute power among his or her people.
Genocide
the deliberate and systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural group.
United Nations
An international organization composed of most of the countries of the world. It was founded in 1945 to promote peace, security, and economic development.
Human Rights
rights inherent to all human beings, whatever our nationality, place of residence, sex, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, language, or any other status.
MAD theory
mutual assured destruction: a theory of nuclear deterrence whereby each side in a conflict has the capacity to destroy the other in retaliation for a nuclear attack.
Representative democracy
a system of government in which all eligible citizens vote on representatives to pass laws for them
Stateless nation
A nationality that is not represented by a state
Constitutional monarchy
A form of national government in which the power of the monarch (the king or queen) is restrained by a parliament, by law, or by custom.
Supranational organizations
An organization that has national governments as members with its own sovereign powers over member states.
Modern state system
an organized territory with definite geographical boundaries that are recognized by other states
Social inequality
is the existence of unequal opportunities and rewards for different social positions or statuses within a group or society.
Containment Policy
a United States policy to prevent the spread of communism abroad.
Arms race
a competition between nations for superiority in the development and accumulation of weapons, especially between the US and the former Soviet Union during the Cold War.
