Geometry Vocabulary Flashcards
Acute Angle
An angle less than 90 degrees.
Right Angle
An angle equal to 90 degrees.
Obtuse Angle
An angle greater than 90 degrees.
Straight Angle
An angle equal to 180 degrees.
Vertical Angles
Angles that are across from each other when 2 lines intersect.
Adjacent Angle
Angles that share a common ray and vertex. (angles right next to each other)
Complementary Angles
Angles that add up to 90 degrees.
Supplementary Angles
Angles that add up to 180 degrees.
Parallel Lines
Two lines that never intersect
Transversal
A line that intersects 2 or more lines.
Corresponding Angles
Angles that are in the same position on the parallel lines in relation to the transversal (the angles are congruent)
Alternate Interior Angles
Angles that are inside the parallel lines and on opposite sides of the transversal
Alternate Exterior Angles
Angles that are outside the parallel lines and on opposite sides of the transversal (they are congruent)
Congruent
having the same size and shape.
Consecutive Interior Angles
Angles that are inside the parallel lines and on the SAME side of the transversal. (supplementary angles)
