Geometry Terms Flashcards
An imaginary, smallest unit of measure, zero-dimensional with only a locaiton.
A Point.
an infinte number of connected points
A line
2 points contained in the same line
Collinear
Ray
one half of a line. has a specific starting point then proceeds infinitely.
Congruent
Two shapes that are exactly the same
plane
infinite number of connected lines lying in the same flat surface
coplanar
two lines lying in the same plane
Study of two dimensional shapes that lie within a plane
plane geometry
Three-dimensional geometry; length, width, and height, pertaining to space and solids
Solid Geometry
What is the symbol for an Intersection?
an upside-down u, meaning two or more things or groups meet or overlap
What is the symbol for union?
a U, two or more things or groups are combined
Empty or null set
no possible answer
Subset
sideways U; one set is a sub set of another
Set
{} A collection of things. Capital letters are used to represent the members of each set.
Vertex
orgin of an angle
angle
the space between an intersection (meeting) on two lines.
A Right Angle
The measure of this angle is 90 degrees. A drawn box at the vertex represents this concept
Straight Angle
180 degrees- straight line angle
Acute Angle
more than 0 less than 90
obtuse
more than 90 less than 180
reflex angle
more than 180 and less than 360
Angles that share a common side and have the same origin
adjacent angles
Supplementary angles
measure add up to 180 degrees
Complementary angles
Two angles whose measure add up to 90 degrees.
Transversal
A straight line that intersects two or more parallel lines.
Quadrilateral
Four sides
Rectangle
A quadrilateral with four right angles
Rhombus
A quad. with four congruent sides
Parallelogram
a quad. with two pairs of parallel sides
A trapezoid
A quad. with only on pair of parallel sides
A square
A rectangle with four congruent sides
