Geometry Flashcards
What is a polygon?
A closed 2D shape that has 3 or more straight edges
What a quadrilateral?
A closed 2D shape that has straight edges
Give examples of a quadrilateral
Trapezoid, rectangle, square, parallelogram, rhombus
What are the properties of a rectangle?
It has 4 right angles, opposite sides are congruent, 2 sets of parallel lines
What are the properties of a triangle?
It has 3 straight sides, 3 angles and 3 corners and the sum of the angles equal 180 degrees.
What is an acute angle?
An angle that is less than 90 degrees
What is an obtuse angle?
An angle that is greater than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees
What is a right angle?
An angle that is 90 degrees
What is an intersecting line?
Lines that cross at one point
What is a perpendicular line?
Two lines that are at right angles or 90 degrees to each other.
What is a parallel line?
Lines in the same plane that never meet and are always the same distance apart.
What is an equilateral triangle?
A triangle in which all sides are the same length
What is an isosceles triangle?
A triangle in which two sides are the same length and the two base angles are the same size.
What is a scalene triangle?
A triangle in which all the sides are of a different length
What is an acute triangle?
A triangle in which all three angles are less than 90 degrees
