GEOMETRY Flashcards
The branch of mathematics that deals with shapes, angles, dimensions and sizes of a variety of things we see in everyday life.
Geometry
derived from Ancient Greek words – ‘Geo’ means ‘Earth’ and ‘metron’ means ‘measurement’.
Geometry
Line extending from the center of a circle or sphere to the circumference or surface.
Radius
The length of the line through the center that touches two points on the edge of the circle. Twice the value of radius. D = 2r
Diameter
The distance around the boundary of a circle.
Is equal to 2 Pi(π) r (radius). C=2πR
Circumference
Line segment whose two extremities are points located on the circumference of the same circle.
Chord
Line that touches two points in the circle but doesn’t pass through the center of the circle.
Chord
The ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. is equal to 3.14.
Pi (π)
The region occupied by the circle in a two-dimensional plane.
Area of the Circle
It can be determined easily using a formula, A = π r², (Pi r-squared) where r is the radius of the circle.
Area of the Circle
Measures the total length around the outside of a shape.
Perimeter
A plane figure with four equal sides and four right (90°) angles.
Square
Two Equations for Square:
______ is side squared ( A=s²).
Area
Two Equations for Square:
___________ is the sum of all four sides or 4s ( P= 4S).
Perimeter
Is a type of quadrilateral, whose opposite sides are equal and parallel.
