Geometry Flashcards
What are congruent figures?
shapes that are identical in shape and size
corresponding angles are equal and corresponding sides are equal
What are the four main congruency tests?
SSS
SAS
AAS
RHS
What is the SSS congruency test for triangles?
Two triangles are congruent if all three matching sides are equal in length.
What is the SAS congruency test for triangles?
Two triangles are congruent if two pairs of matching sides are equal in length and the included angles are equal.
This can also be reversed: ASA
What is the AAS congruency test for triangles?
Two triangles are congruent if two matching angles are equal and one pair of matching sides is equal in length.
What is the RHS congruency test for right-angled triangles?
Two right-angled triangles are congruent if the hypotenuse and one pair of matching sides are equal in length.
What do we call two angles that add up to 90°?
complementary angles
What do we call two angles that add up to 180°?
supplementary angles
What is a transversal?
A transversal is a line that crosses two or more other lines.
What is the sum of all angles at a point?
360°
What is the sum of the angles of a triangle?
180°
What is the sum of the angles of a quadrilateral?
360°
What do we call the equal angles that are created when two straight lines intersect?
vertically opposite angles
What do we call two angles that share the same vertex and a common arm?
adjacent angles
What type of angles are depicted in the image below, and what do we know about those angles?
alternate angles
they are equal
